Microsoft gave a few examples - from "surfaces of cars reflecting off each other, to brilliant red paint bouncing off intensely detailed track surfaces, and the interplay of light and shadow throughout the world." We also know ray tracing comes standard, bringing advanced lighting over past games.
That includes a 4K resolution target at 60 frames-per-second (FPS) on Xbox Series X, the best Xbox console on the market right now. The announcement discussed a "connected and dynamic" world, with added depth enabled by the improved ForzaTech engine.
The first Forza Motorsport trailer provided a glimpse into what's ahead through the lens of the technology powering the experience. We also expect upgrades in the core gameplay, expanding on the fundamentals of its simulation sandbox and how players handle cars in moment-to-moment racing. Hundreds of iconic vehicles, a sizeable handful of locales, and other series signatures are among the assumed features. Microsoft currently remains tight on Forza Motorsport's details, making it hard to discern advancements over earlier games. And this is after supporting Forza Motorsport 7 for longer than we ever have before," Greenawalt told IGN in late 2019. "So, as of right now, Motorsport itself is actually in concept it's just something we're currently building. The two series received parallel post-launch support, with Microsoft creative director Dan Greenawalt citing its new approach among reasons for schedule amendments back in 2019. The absence of Forza Motorsport's bi-annual return follows long-term support for its predecessor, with regular updates delivered beyond the launch of Forza Horizon 4.
The 59-second teaser solely featured "in-engine" footage, pitched as a proof of concept during "early development." It focused on improvements to the underlying ForzaTech engine rather than all-new Forza gameplay. Work remains underway on a reboot simply dubbed "Forza Motorsport," still in the early stages of development and with no firm release date.įorza Motorsport was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020. However, tailing the release of Forza Horizon 4, its upcoming project shakes up the schedule, departing from the two-year turnaround of each series. It only really works in cockpit mode, and requires a fairly in-depth set up with the Kinect unit so that it reads you correctly. The Forza franchise has adopted an annual release cycle over the years, alternating between the mainline Forza Motorsport entries developed by Turn 10 Studios and the casual street racing of Forza Horizon from Playground Games. It’s a slightly more complicated version of Shift 2’s feature that automatically does the same thing. What this means is that you can look towards the apex of the turn as you drive through it and the camera will shift towards the direction you’re looking. While this is hearsay to any dyed in the wool sim fan, it’s a foot in the door for the vast number of players that feel overwhelmed by too many options and a steep learning curve.įor more traditional players, the game does give you the option to use the controller while using the Kinect unit strictly for head tracking. Using exclusively Kinect controls reduces the gameplay to simply steering your car around the track while you hold an invisible steering wheel. The Kinect functionality offers a degree of intrigue to these players, as it’s much more forgiving and allows you to fool around with a great looking game without memorizing every turn and your car’s torque curve. Most people we know who aren't into cars yawn at the idea of sitting down with a racing game where you actually have to brake. We made sure to try out the game’s much hyped Kinect functionality, and it’s much more usable than you’d think. Of course there’s the traditional circuit, drift and drag racing to tackle as well. It’s up to the cats to simultaneously harass the enemy mouse if he’s in the lead while assisting their mouse if he’s boxed in. Cat and Mouse mode has two teams, each with one mouse and a number of cats, attempting to escort their mouse around the track. The goal is to be the last one not infected, which is difficult when the majority of the racers are gunning for you. Tag (Virus) has an infected player bumping into leading cars, passing the infection up through the ranks. Multiplayer also includes “Tag (Virus)” mode and “Cat and Mouse” mode. It may sound silly, but it’s quite a bit of fun. The Top Gear touch also makes its presence known in the online play, offering car soccer as a multiplayer option.
